Vestlandsutstillingen 2020
Jack & Jill - A Road Movie (2005) will be presented at Vestlandsutstilingen 2020.
”Vestlandsutstillingen 2020 explores the relationship between the quintessential ‘Norwegian’ in relation to the international contemporary art scene. The Norwegian west coast landscape is inherently vibrant, heavily associated with the era of romantic nationalism, visible to the area’s artists at all times and thus inevitable. Curator Elise By Olsen is interested in how the landscape and its history sculpts art to this day. Simultaneously, today´s technology and travel opportunities also allow for participation in artistic discourses beyond local existence. By Olsen then raises the question if it´s possible to rethink and recontextualize romantic nationalism seen from a more mundane perspective, free from mental and physical boundaries of time and space. In response, she has selected artists who, in the wake of the digital revolution and freedom from the requirement of physical presence, still choose to create their art by painstakingly working on organic processes, time-consuming methods, and solid materials.”
